Last year my daughter was born. Fifteen months later, she’s grown into a toddler. She walks and squeaks with joy when she’s able to speed up into a jog before she plants her face down. She practices falling and getting back up until she’s no longer wobbly. She inspires me every day.
Before I had my daughter, for three years, I made music almost every day. I’d make a sound one day, start over, make a new sound the next day. Like a toddler, I was playing, having fun, and in the flow. And also like a toddler, I’d drop one sound, pick up another—non-linear and unbound.
I’m listening to those sounds now. Those “toddler” sounds are my clues on what to do next when it comes to making music. They want to be picked up, nurtured, developed, and given structure. I’m excited to continue my creative process, share my ideas, and behind the scenes.
Welcome to Sound Practice — a monthly newsletter that invites you into the messy, joyful, non-linear process of creating sound.
